Visual separation is sometimes key to a vehicle’s identity. Cars such as the Range Rover, Mini and Citroen DS3 have long featured DLO graphics that flow over the A-, B- and C-pillar to give a ‘floating roof’ effect.
But we’re now seeing an emerging trend where the roof and C-pillar are getting pinched together, yet still leaving a distinctive gap. This trend is evidenced on such recent cars as the Honda Civic Tourer, BMW i3 and i8, Nissan Resonance and Friend ME concepts and the Suzuki iv.4 concept, which all feature this motif.
The Citroen Cactus concept offered a floating C-pillar blade over the glass — a further take on this trend.
Will it continue? Or is it just a flash in the pan? Only time will tell.
