Autoroute by Jaguar
Gökhan Eryigit and Flavio Guillen
Second-year students Gökhan Eryigit and Flavio Guillen designed the Autoroute concept as part of the sponsored project with Jaguar Cars. The project consists of two elements: the ‘G-Type’ autonomous vehicle for companies looking for an alternative to business journeys by airplane, and the Autoroute system of magnetic roads that the vehicle hovers over.
Working to a brief set by Jaguar, Eryigit and Guillen created an ultra-luxury vehicle floating vehicle for the year 2050 that provides privacy for its occupants as well as a host of creature comforts enabled by technology within.
The exterior design of the concept is organic but also geometric. Sensual surfaces are cut to create a sense of speed and proportion, while the exterior frame — made of superconductor material — defines its proportions graphically. “We defined elegance of the future as harmony between opposites. This is the driving idea behind the design language,” say the designers.
The interior is covered by a glass canopy with gradual translucency to show just enough to the outside world. The passengers have a full view of their surrounding while observers can only have a glimpse of what and who is in the vehicle.
The vehicle deconstructs itself to make entry comfortable, embracing interaction with its passengers. The front seats slide out to accommodate more than two passengers and create a welcoming atmosphere. With the use of displays and holograms, the interior features a light and reduced feeling, while sculpted seats that appear to be floating.
