Art Center graduate Natalia Amijo’s take on an autonomous car for the French automaker
Squarely concentrated on exteriors, Natalia Amijo’s Art Center graduation projects ranged from production ready to conceptually sublime.
We were especially taken by her Renault concept, inspired by the boning and lace construction of corsets. In this case, the boning was used to emphasize transitions in surface and to reinforce certain traditional automotive proportions and volumes.
It also begs for proportional comparison to the female form, with its tapered plan-view waistline. Furthermore, by shrouding all surfaces in the same manner, Amijo gives us a glimpse into the stylistic possibilities presented by autonomous cars.
