Mercedes-Benz Style Unveils Arrow460 Granturismo Yacht

Mercedes-Benz Style and Silver Arrows Marine unveiled the design of their new luxury motor yacht — the Arrow460 Granturismo — at the Monaco Yacht Show. The 14-meter ‘Granturismo of the seas’ will be built by Silver Arrows Marine and sold in limited numbers. Its design was previewed as a two-meter long model

Mercedes-Benz says the yacht combines hallmark design features of the company’s automobiles with innovations in the boat building industry.

“This new motor yacht with its emotional and high-tech features embodies our Mercedes-Benz design philosophy of sensual purity and is a perfect expression of modern luxury,” says Gorden Wagener, Mercedes-Benz vice president of design. “Under the label Mercedes-Benz Style we develop highly exclusive design products beyond the automobile, thereby bringing our sensual, clear and progressive design idiom, into other spheres of life.”

Inspired by classic automobile proportions, the Arrow460 Granturismo has a long foredeck, a flowing, arched roofline and a slightly descending rear. A feature line descending towards the stern distinguishes the yacht’s profile, which is akin to the dropping line adorning the bodyside of the German automaker’s cars.

A concave and convex interaction along the entire flank creates a hull convey dynamism while the overall composition is accentuated by functional fittings with high attention to detail. The yacht decking is made out of a high-tech synthetic material, which enabled the designers to create an entirely new look.

Mercedes designers also developed an innovative interior space concept for up to ten passengers, which dispenses with a traditional motor yacht’s compartmentalized layout in favor of a multifunctional and largely open-plan area. A dining table and bed slide into position only when they are required.

The interior materials are reminiscent of Mercedes-Benz’s cars, with nubuck leather and eucalyptus wood paneling, as well as san assortment of color combinations.

The special Edition 1 version — the first model offered for sale — comes with a number of standard features, including a luxurious bathroom unit and separate utility room. The yacht will be equipped with air conditioning and a premium audio system, while a wine cellar and an ice-making machine are available options.

The yacht combines the characteristics of an open boat with those of a cabin cruiser making it suitable for both day trips and overnight excursions. Its versatility is communicated through large glazed areas: its side windows slide open and the front window can be raised, allowing passengers to sit comfortably inside whilst still enjoying the feeling of being outside. The glazing automatically controls light penetration depending on the intensity of the sun.

The Arrow460 Granturismo Edition 1 will be built as a limited edition of ten units. It can be ordered directly from Silver Arrows Marine at a price of €1.25m ($1.7m). The first units will be delivered to customers in early 2015.
